Turkey’s annual inflation soars 69.97% in April

A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 7.25%, on December of the previous year by 31.71%, on same month of the previous year by 69.97% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 34.46% in April 2022.

Compared to general CPI, lower annual change observed in 9 main groups while 3 main groups were higher

The lowest annual increase was 18.71% in communication. Clothing and footwear with 26.23%, education with 27.73% and health with 35.95%, were the other main groups where low annual increases realized. On the other hand, transportation with 105.86%, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 89.10% and furnishings and household equipment with 77.64% were the main groups where high annual increases realized.

Compared to general CPI, lower monthly change observed in 10 main groups while 2 main groups were higher

In April 2022, miscellaneous goods and services with 0.93%, health with 1.31% and communication with 2.87% were the main groups that indicated lowest monthly increase. On the other hand, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 13.38%, housing with 7.43%, and clothing and footwear with 6.96% were the main groups where high monthly increases realized.

In April 2022, within average prices of 409 items in the index, the average prices of 27 items decreased and the average prices of 45 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 337 items increased.

The indicator for CPI having specified coverage (B) increased by 57.20% annually and 5.58% monthly

A rise in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 5.58%, on December of the previous year by 22.88%, on same month of the previous year by 57.20% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 30.87% in April 2022.
